The Chicago Bulls had game one vs. the 76ers well wrapped up at the end of the game, but their superstar point guard Derrick Rose was still in the game. Even though the Bulls were up by 20 points R0se was in the game because of his limited playing time at the tail end of the regular season (various injuries) so he wanted to get back in the grove and there is no better way to do that than getting as much playing time on the court as possible. At the four-minute mark the Rose went down and unlike the many other times, he was not able to get up this time. The United Center became so quite you could hear a pin drop and you could see the fear in his fans’ and teammates’ eyes. Rose was then helped off the court by the Bulls’ medical staff. After the game Rose had a MRI done on his left knee it is was found he did indeed tear his ACL, which obviously will end his season as well as put much of next years regular season in question.

What this means for the rest of the Eastern Conference

The Bulls have enough talent to still be a tough out in the playoffs without Rose and will likely make it past Philadelphia with ease. In round two the Bulls will either play the Celtics or the Hawks. With almost everyone expecting the Celtics to win vs. the Hawks, the Bulls will face their toughest test of the season if the Celtics continue their high caliber play. The Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau is no stranger to the Celtics though, as he help them get to two NBA Finals appearances (winning one) as an assistant. The Miami Heat and the Bulls have been supposed to meet in the Conference Finals and many analysts picked the Bulls to win that series. No without one of the most explosive players in the game it puts that in serious jeopardy. With the way Miami dominated the Knicks today it seems the Heat are now destined to reach the Finals for a second straight year.
