NBA MVP Predictions

We are avid fans of the NBA so we decided to share who we think the MVP is up to this point in the season.

Shawn: At this point in the season I think the MVP has to be super-star Kevin Durant, forward of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He is the arguably the best and most efficient scorer in the league with his field-goal percentage staying around 50% all season long. Durant is also one of the toughest players to guard in the entire NBA. Right now he has the Thunder in first place in the Western Conference with the third best record in the NBA. He also has to deal with Russell Westbrook, the ego-maniac point guard, who on a nightly basis tries to lose the game for the Thunder by taking unnecessary shots and not passing the ball because he thinks he is the superstar on the team (not the case). Even though on most night Durant takes less shots than Westbrook he still scores more because he takes smart shots.

Rob:LeBron James (MIA) My pick for NBA MVP thus far is LeBron James. So far in the 2011-2012 season, James has led the Heat with 27.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 8.4 rebounds per game. LeBron is also putting up career highs in field goal and 3 point percentages this season. Last season LeBron shot 51% from the field. This season, his field goal percentage has gone up to 54%. As for LeBron’s 3 point shooting, last season he shot 33%. This season, his 3 point shooting has gone up to 37%. Those stat increases have improved LeBron’s play tremendously this season, and have also increased the Heat’s chances of winning games. One thing that could hinder LeBron’s MVP status is the fact that he is playing with 2 superstars, but we will see if the voters make that a factor or not.

Brennan: Kobe Bryant should be the 2011-2012 NBA MVP, for several reasons. The main reason is that he leads the NBA in points per game. Kobe averages 28.5 points per game. Kobe has also shown this year that just because he is getting older this year really does not affect him. Kobe’s highlight this year has to be the game winning shot against the Celtics with about 40 seconds left on the clock. If Kobe can remain healthy throught the last couple months he will claim his second NBA MVP crown.

Jonny: I believe that Derrick Rose is the best candidate for the 2011-2012 MVP because he has put up some very impressive numbers and besides the stats he has been able to close out games and been very dependable when the games were on the line. Even though it’s just the regular season Rose has proved himself time and time again being able to take his team and come out with a win in crucial situations. Currently the Bulls are first in the East and have the best record in the NBA with a 39-10 win/lose ratio. Rose’s stats may not be the best but he averages 22.8 points per-game, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds. Let’s not forget the fact that Rose has been injured a lot this season and his game has not been up to par like it was last year, but I believe that if the Bulls make it to the playoff, which with a record like that it would be shocking if they didn’t, Rose will step his game up and play like an MVP.
